A Magical Night In Krakow, Poland

We arrived in Krakow, Poland in the early evening.  The city was still quite busy.
Plane, train and then automobile, we checked into our room at the Benedict Hostile and left almost immediately to find some dinner.  I am on the hunt for traditional pierogis and sausage if possible.

This HUGE shopping centre has got to be bigger than Yorkdale.  When leaving the train station we managed to come out through the front doors of this Galleria to a spectacular light show on the building.

This imposing fortress is called the Barbican and it is still secured to some of the existing city walls.  Built around the 12th century it is in amazing shape for a building that is almost 1000 years old.  It is the entrance to the 'Royal Way' that the Polish Kings used when they returned to the city.  It meanders all the way to Wawel Hill (castle and cathedral).  But more on that later.

St. Mary's Church welcomes us at the entrance of the Main Market Square.  A church has been on this spot for at least 800 years.
While we were there, it was either closed or unavailable for viewing.  Poop.

This Square is where Krakow's citizens spend their time.  Literally everyone is out and about here...at all ours of the day.  Living and enjoying life.
Florists, buskers, musicians, bubble makers, ballooners, dogs, pigeons, bikers, horse drawn carriages.....everyone.
The photo above is what is called the Cloth Hall.  Inside there had to be over 100 vendors.
It is gorgeous all lit up.

Many horse drawn buggies can be found here all lined up waiting for customers.  Beautiful horses.
Keep an eye out though.....they come at you from all directions...thank goodness you can hear there clop, clop, clopping.

An end of an evening...we are tired, but tomorrow is going to be an emotional and difficult day.
We visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland's infamous concentration camp only 50 miles away.
