Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Berlin

This Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is also known by the name The Holocaust Memorial.
It is a group of many, stark, grey, slabs of concrete, many sizes and heights.
Built in 2004, one block from Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany.
Below this monument is a very informative and emotional place that takes about an hour to tour.

As you walk through them, they can totally engulf you.
You can feel all alone and maybe a bit frightened.
I actually felt anxious and disoriented while I wandered through.

It is very thought provoking to be amongst these parts of the memorial.

The monuments cover almost 5 acres.  They are situated that some face East-West and some North-South.
There are 2,711 of them.

Some are as high as 15 feet tall, and as small as just under 8 inches tall.

There are many interpretations of this monument.  Does it look like an unmarked cemetery?  Vast numbers of unnamed, unmarked, and unburied.

"It happened, therefore it can happen again: this is the core of what we have to say."
A quote by Primo Levi.

"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
A quote by George Santayana

We must never forget.
